Utilities Department Maintenance Notice
September 21, 2018
The Town of Fox Creek utilities department will be conducting maintenance activities today Friday September 21, 2018. This may result in periods of reduced water pressure, and or discolouration. We expect to have the system back to normal operation shortly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
A Thorough Flushing – It’s a Good Thing
September 16, 2018
The Public Works Department will be flushing all fire hydrants in Fox Creek over the next few weeks.
This important maintenance procedure allows us to clear sediment in the water mains, ensures proper operation of the hydrants, and gives our distribution system a good work out.
Residents may notice some discolouration as a result of this work, and are asked to flush the cold water to ensure the water is suitable for laundry and consumption.
As always, the water will be frequently sampled ensuring the safe supply to our community.

Bulk Water Sales Resume
Effective Immediately – the Town of Fox Creek will be resuming the sale of bulk water
The Water Treatment Plant, located just south of Town off Highway 43 along the SemCAMS Road, is open for bulk water sales. The system will require new customers to set up an account with the utility clerk at the Town Administration Office.
All existing accounts will still operate, provided you enter your company PIN number.
The current charge as approved by Council (Bylaw 759-2015) is $10.00 per cubic meter (1000 litres). This service will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
We recommend you visit the distribution site to ensure you have the correct attachments to connect to our new top fill system.
If you have any questions, please contact the Town Office at (780) 622-3896.
Asphalt Millings Available for Purchase
The Town of Fox creek has acquired a quantity of asphalt millings as a result of the Highway #43 improvements.
The millings are available to businesses and residents at $42.00 per cubic meter ($17.50 per ton). We have found this material to be great for dust control, it sheds rainfall easily, and will greatly reduce tracking of mud associated with heavy truck traffic.
As we have a limited quantity, there are several stipulations which accompany the purchase of this material:
- Millings are to be used only as a top coat on driveways and lots.
- Millings are NOT to be used as fill. It is unsuitable for this purpose anyway.
- Millings are NOT to be resold.
- Purchasers are responsible for transport of this material. Town Staff will help load vehicles, at the airport.
- Millings are not a suitable alternative for residential driveways, they must still be paved or concreted.
- Millings are available to Fox Creek residents and businesses, for use in town only.
- Payment is by debit/credit card only, at time of purchase.
Water Plant tie-in – Delayed
August 8, 2017
Commissioning of the Water Plant has been delayed. We require a little more time and now anticipate bringing the treatment system online during the month of August.
The new plant which will provide fresh clean tap water, and abundant quantities for fighting fires if required, is a welcome addition to our community.
Please stay tuned for the official Grand Opening announcement. We look forward to hosting an open house and introducing community members to this marvel in new technology.
New Treatment Plant Online this Month
July 13, 2017
The commissioning of the new wells, pumping stations, and water treatment centre begin the week of July 17.
During this first week we will begin flowing water from the 13 new wells that have been installed. These wells gather into 3 pump stations, and then feed into the Water Treatment Plant through an 8 km long water main.
The Process and Anticipated Schedule
- sample water chemistry and quality;
- pressure test the newly installed water main;
- ensure proper operation of air relief valves, control points, and flow capacities;
- and ensure proper operation of the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system.
Once all of these critical steps are completed, we will begin to flow water into the Water Treatment System.
We will begin optimizing the treatment process. Our new filtration system uses Greensand Plus, which will remove the iron and manganese in the water.
What to expect
Residents will notice some issues with discoloration over the next two to three weeks, as some of our old wells will be semi-retired, and we will be changing flows and pressures within the system.
If discoloration is present, please flush cold water taps.
Our Utilities staff will be present, flushing hydrants when needed, monitoring water quality, and continually ensuring public health and safety with our water supply.
Town staff, administration and Council are thrilled to have this major milestone for our community met.
Water Treatment System Upgrades
April 16, 2017
Groundwork has begun with the upgrade to the Water Treatment and Distribution system of Fox Creek.
In May of 2015, the contract for the design and build of the Water Treatment Plant was awarded to CORIX Ltd. We will be using Greensand Plus media filters, and chlorine injection for our Water Treatment.
MPE has been designing the upgrade to the water system, including the building, piping, pumps, and construction of this project. Preliminary plants designs have been received and reviewed by the Town.
NuEdge has been installing the piping from our new well field to the Water Treatment Plant (WTP), and from the WTP to our Distribution System. Currently we have 1100 meters of 8”, 10” and 18” installed using directional boring procedures. The water line work, which requires approximately 9000 meters of piping, is expected to be completed by the last week of March 2016.
The drilling portion of the project included 13 new wells, which the Town plans on licensing for more than 900 gallons per minute (4 905 000 litres per day). This volume of water is anticipated to see the water supply system of Fox Creek through many years, and will be able to provide for a large amount of growth within the community.
Water Conservation and Filtration Program
April 16, 2017
The Water Conservation and Filtration Policy provides residents in the Town of Fox Creek with utility accounts in good standing to receive rebates in the form of a credit on their utility account for the installation of low-flow toilets, shower heads and in-line filtration systems.
