During the February 10, 2020 Regular Council Meeting, Mayor Jim Hailes swore in Christopher Stadnyk as Town of Fox Creek Councillor.

STARS brought to Council their annual Town of Fox Creek Update. In the update they discussed the 2019 3 inter-facility transfers and 2 scene/search & rescue for Fox Creek, both of which are down from the past few years. The representatives from STARS also discussed the H145 Fleet Renewal Campaign, which brought them 3 new helicopters in 2019, and will bring 6 more by 2022. These new helicopters provide personnel more movability and space to be able to assist individuals.

Community Futures Yellowhead East presented to Council their Lemonade Day program, which resulted in the Mayor proclaiming June 20, 2020 Northern Alberta Lemonade Day in the Town of Fox Creek. Through this program children have the opportunity to learn how to start, own and operate a business by setting up a lemonade stand of their own. There will be contests including best lemonade stand, and best lemonade. Watch for more information to come.

The Expression of Interest for Children’s Service contract replacement funding was submitted on January 20. The Director of Community Resources feels assured that they put forth a strong application and is expecting to hear back from Children’s Services by mid-March.

The Acting Director of Operations reported that he went on a walkthrough of the old RCMP building on Hammond Drive with a Northern Lake College delegation on January 17. The walkthrough was to see what would be needed to turn the building into a satellite college. The delegation was overall happy with the space and had few concerns.

The Chief Administrative Officer expects construction of the new library space in the Fox Creek Greenview Multiplex to begin by the end of the month, conditional on Council’s approval.

Council has proclaimed March 1-7, 2020 Move Over Awareness Week in the Town of Fox Creek. Throughout the week advertisements will be sent out through social media and the Town’s website education the community about the importance of slowing down or moving over when emergency, tow truck, and road maintenance vehicles are present on the sides of roads. The week will end with a 1-hour rally where the above-mentioned vehicles will line up on the side of Highway 43 across from the airport with their lights flashing to further raise awareness.
