Regular Meeting of Council

BUSINESS

RCMP Delegation

Council welcomed the new RCMP Sergeant, Tara Mason to Fox Creek. The RCMP provided an update on current policing priorities, which include impaired driving, intersection enforcement, and parking. While impaired driving remains a concern, the number of incidents is trending lower than average for this time of year.

Council directed Administration to invite the RCMP to return in 2026, once the new Council is in place, to further discuss policing priorities and ensure alignment with community needs.

Old Visitor Information Centre

The Old Visitor Information Centre, currently home to the Fox Creek Fitness Society and Northern Lakes College, has been experiencing significant issues with moisture and mold due to structural deficiencies such as poor ventilation, inadequate roof overhangs and problems with the shingles.

Council approved additional long-term repairs to address these root causes, including full roof replacement, stucco repair, and new eavestrough installation. These fixes aim to prevent recurring damage and ensure the building remains safe and functional for community use.

Bylaw 869-2023-A03 – Fees and Rates Bylaw: Water, Wastewater and Solid Waste

Council gave third and final reading to Bylaw 869-2023-A03, which updates landfill, water, wastewater, and solid waste fees.

The Town undertook extensive public outreach, including a one-hour Q&A session prior to the meeting, attended by two residents. Neither brought forward concerns about the proposed changes.

Key Landfill Changes:

• Pickup truck loads will now be $25 per load.

• Only waste originating in Fox Creek will be accepted.

• Trailers larger than a pickup truck box and all commercial vehicles will no longer be accepted.

• Clean fill (e.g., dirt or sand) will continue to be accepted free of charge.

These changes are necessary to extend the landfill’s remaining life, manage rising costs, and build reserves for eventual closure and long-term monitoring.

This was the final Regular Meeting of Council before the upcoming municipal election. The Town extends its thanks to residents for their continued engagement and looks forward to welcoming the new Council later this fall.
