To facilitate the return to the renovated Administration Office, Council approved the temporary closure of the office from February 20 to March 3, 2025. During this period, online payment options will remain available, and an emergency contact number will be provided for urgent matters (780-622-7742).
Mycological Research Project
The Economic Development and Emergency & Safety Departments have partnered to introduce a Mycological Research Project to enhance Fox Creek’s resilience and innovate wildfire management strategies. The project aims to explore the use of fungi to decompose forest debris, improve moisture retention, and reduce wildfire risks.
The research will focus on how mushroom inoculation can break down dry forest material, making the landscape more fire-resistant while enriching the soil. Studies from the U.S. have already demonstrated success, with inoculated woodchip plots decaying at 84.4% compared to only 30% in untreated areas. This initiative positions Fox Creek at the forefront of innovative wildfire prevention, potentially shaping future forestry and environmental policies in Alberta.
Highway 43 & Peace Officer Services
Council will request to meet with Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors Devin Dreeshen to discuss ongoing concerns about Highway 43, snow removal issues, and overall road safety. This meeting is part of Fox Creek’s ongoing efforts to improve highway maintenance and infrastructure for residents and travelers.
Additionally, Administration is actively working on establishing contracted Peace Officer services, which would enhance bylaw enforcement and community safety in Fox Creek. More details on this initiative will be shared as discussions progress.
