Sgt. Thackery presented to Council the Enhanced Policing Report for the summer 2019 mentioning the number of Beak and Enters that have occurred this summer. With assistance from the regional Forensic Identification Team, Serious Crime Section, Police Dog Service, and Auto Theft, the detachment was able to identify, arrest and charge several suspects.
Community Services has seen a large increase in employment related phone calls or drop-ins between the months of July and August. The Director of Corporate Services advised Council that this was in part due to the number of seasonal workers now looking for new employment opportunities.
The Director of Parks and Recreation has begun including more with the Multiplex membership price with the goal of people realizing the benefits to having a membership. All programs that are ran internally are included with a membership. A membership will also bring you a reduced cost on programs that are taught by outside instructors or contractors.
Council held a Public Hearing prior to the start of the Regular Meeting of Council to bring forward Road Closure Bylaw 825-2019. This Bylaw will potentially allow the closure of part of the Main Street Road Allowance located beside the Pizza Joint. The closure will not affect Main Street, just the green space located between the sidewalk and Pizza Joint. With the Public Hearing being held, as well as the first reading being given during the Regular Meeting, the Bylaw can now go to the Minister of Transportation for his approval.
September has been proclaimed Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. People are encouraged to visit the Prostate Cancer Canada website to learn more about prostate cancer, and how to spread awareness.
Council has also proclaimed the week of September 23-28 Alberta Development Officers Week. This week will help us publicly recognize the hard work our Development Officer puts in for the improvement of the Town of Fox Creek.
