FireSmart Vegetation Management Project
The Town of Fox Creek is proud to launch the FireSmart Vegetation Management Project, a community-wide initiative aimed at reducing wildfire risks and enhancing public safety. This project, funded through grants from the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA), involves selective harvesting, clear-cutting, thinning, pruning, and mulching across key areas within the town boundaries.
Our primary goal is to manage vegetation in a way that mitigates the threat of wildfires, protecting our residents, homes, and businesses. At the same time, these efforts create opportunities for future development in treated areas. The project will run from January 14th, 2025, over the next 2–3 winter seasons.
Maps (Figure 1) and plans for this project were presented at community events and discussed during Council meetings. Regular updates will be provided to keep residents informed about our progress.
