A Public Hearing was held for the Land Use Bylaw 824-2019-A05 Amendment at which Council heard from a resident requesting clarification on the changes. After discussion, Council passed second reading of the Bylaw.

The Chief Administrative Officer and the Director of Community Services reported that a successful Community Night was held on August 30, and it was great to see what groups and agencies are available to residents in the Town of Fox Creek. Lots of people came through to gather information and enjoy the free barbeque.  Our new Mobile Tourist Information Centre made its debut at the event and will now be located in the Multiplex lobby. 

The Chief Administrative Officer reported that the Northern Lakes College Fox Creek Grand Opening was held on August 24 and was attended by many special guests.  This campus provides a great opportunity for community members to access post-secondary education and to further their education and training without having to leave the community.  This new partnership will definitely benefit many.

The Director of Recreation reported the ice plant was started up at the end of August.  Ice is scheduled to be completed by the second week of September.  Ice Kings and Minor hockey will begin practices on September 12.  Ice Kings have an exhibition game schedule for September 17 and their regular season starts with a home game on September 23.

The pool was busy with swimming lessons in August and running other swimming instruction courses.  They want to remind everyone that the pool shutdown will run from September 19 – 30 to allow them to complete maintenance, repairs and cleaning.

The Director of Operations reported the new street sweeper will be here in early September.  All line painting and crosswalks have been completed.

Fire Chief reported call volumes are up. So far this year, they are at the same volume they saw for the entire year last year.  So expect call volumes to be much higher for 2022.
