Mindfulness is a word that we hear used often, but what does it really mean?

Basically, mindfulness means being present, truly focusing on what is happening here and now and bringing awareness to yourself and your surroundings, rather than overthinking something that happened in the past or worrying about something that might happen in the future.

Why should we practice mindfulness?
Mindfulness helps to decrease stress and anxiety, it helps you sleep better, and enables you to feel calmer, more patient, and kinder both to yourself and others.

What are some ways you can practice mindfulness?
You can practice meditating, take a few minutes to do some simple, purposeful breathing exercises, go for a walk in nature and pay attention to your surroundings, spend time with a loved one, without technology distractions, or do something you enjoy and pay attention to how it makes you feel. There are so many ways you can practice mindfulness every day, and often it only takes a couple of minutes!

Take a photo of how you practice mindfulness and send it to crcsupport@foxcreekcrc.ca for a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card!
